Governor of Sa Kaeo Engages in Discussions Over Sovereignty Issues with Banteay Meanchey Counterpart

Poipet: The Governor of Sa Kaeo Province crossed over into Cambodia to engage in discussions with the Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province regarding concerns over Cambodian encroachment on Thai sovereignty. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to address territorial issues between the two regions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Parinya Phothisat, the Governor of Sa Kaeo Province, along with relevant officials, traveled from the Thai side of the Aranyaprathet Canal to Poipet, Cambodia. The discussions took place at the Cambodian Immigration Office in Poipet and focused on issues of encroachment by Cambodians into Thai territory, specifically in the areas of Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo. These areas, while not disputed, are recognized as being under Thai sovereignty. The delegation was welcomed by Um Ria Tai, Governor of Mantrien Wenche Province, at the bridge, where a friendly exchange took place.

The Governor of Sa Kaeo also interacted with Lieutenant General Pek Wanna, Head of the Cambodia-Thailand Border Liaison Office, highlighting the positive relations maintained over time. It was noted that Lieutenant General Pek Wanna had previously crossed into Thailand for medical treatment, reflecting the cooperative spirit between the countries.

Before the meeting, Governor Parinya Phothisat mentioned in a brief interview that his confidence in the discussions stemmed from agreements reached at the General Thai-Cambodian Border Committee (GBC) meeting, underscoring the structured approach to resolving these sovereignty issues.
