the Indonesian Government encourages the utilization of local components within data center construction to create domestic jobs, Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate stated while visiting Schneider Electric in Batam, Riau Islands.

“The government really puts emphasis on Indonesian components,” he noted in a press statement on Sunday.

In order to bolster the utilization of domestic products as well as micro and small enterprises and cooperatives products, President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Instruction No. 2 of 2022.

Every year, the government allocated Rp1,400 trillion for domestic sector spending, comprising Rp1,000 trillion spending by the government and Rp400 trillion spending by State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

According to the minister, the allocation for domestic spending budget will be huge if it is added with activities supported by the private sector.

During the visit, he also highlighted the government’s policy in supporting 5G utilization.

The Communication and Informatics Ministry conducts frequency spectrum farming and refarming to support the utilization of a more advanced technology.

Currently, the technology backbone network being used in Indonesia is 4G and at the same time, the 5G is also being introduced.

The 5G technology can be utilized for smart city, smart village, smart airport, smart harbor and Internet of Things utilization, Plate informed.

Indonesia also requires collaboration of the private sector to develop smart sensor to ensure workers’ safety.

In other sectors, the ministry encourages private companies to develop their efficiency by utilizing technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and metaverse.

During his visit, Plate announced that th government is making preparations to build four National Data Centers (PDN).

This is done to support the implementation of data-driven policies that are efficient, effective, and transparent for ensuring better public service.
