Indonesia has become most important country in Asia: NSW Governor

Jakarta (Antara) - During the seven decades of progress, Indonesia has grown to become the most important country in Asia, Governor of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, David Hurley stated.

The remark was delivered by Governor Hurley in his speech at a diplomatic reception to commemorate Indonesias 72nd Independence Day at the Indonesian House in the Kent Road Rose Bay, according to a statement from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Sydney received by Antara here on Friday.

"For more than seven decades, Indonesia has continued to achieve progress in various fields, which has made it one of the most important countries in Asia," the governor said in fluent Indonesian.

Governor Hurley, who wore Indonesian batik to the event to celebrate Indonesias Independence Day, underlined the importance of maintaining sound relations between Indonesia and Australia in areas, such as economy, education, and culture.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Consul General in Sydney Yayan G.H. Mulyana emphasized the significance of the 72 years for Indonesia. It reaffirms a commitment to building sustainable economic growth, social development, political stability, good governance, and human rights protection.

"With the spirit of constructive participation, the theme of Indonesias Independence Day commemoration is working together towards a just, prosperous, and peaceful Indonesia," Consul General Mulyana noted.

The event was attended by representatives of the government, parliament, academia, media, business, and consular corps, including the guest of honor, NSWs Multicultural Affairs Minister Ray Williams.
