Bangkok: Masatada Ishii, head coach of the Thai national football team, expressed his gratitude to the fans following the team’s 2-0 victory over India. He expressed hope that the “War Elephants” will secure 3 points in their forthcoming Asian Cup match against Turkmenistan.
According to Thai News Agency, the recent friendly match, held on FIFA Day, saw Thailand, ranked 99th globally, face off against India, ranked 127th, at Thammasat Stadium. This match served as a preparation for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Ishii fielded several new players, including Marco Ballini, making his national team debut, alongside Chanon Thamma and Songwut Kraikruan. The midfield featured Pitthawat Sukjitthammakul and Benjamin Davis, while the forward lineup included Prames Ajwilai, Kraiwut Thasa, and Chanarong Promseekaew.
The match commenced with a strong performance from the Thai team, which created numerous scoring opportunities. In the 8th minute, Kraiwut Tasa assisted Benjamin Davis, a Thai-English player, in scoring t
he opening goal, giving Thailand a 1-0 lead by halftime.
In the second half, India improved their play, but Thailand’s counterattack strategy paid off in the 59th minute. Benjamin Davis assisted Prames Ajwilai, who successfully scored from outside the penalty area, cementing Thailand’s 2-0 victory.
Post-match, Ishii thanked the fans for their support and acknowledged the team’s vulnerabilities. He emphasized the importance of preparing for the upcoming match against Turkmenistan, which will involve adapting to artificial turf and unfamiliar weather conditions.
