Bangkok: Linthiporn Warinwatcharoj, Deputy Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has raised critical questions about the People’s Party’s responsibility in supporting the Bhumjaithai Party’s rise to form a majority government. She addressed concerns following reports of a dinner involving leaders of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, led by Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, and Ruam Thai Sang Chart MPs, which signaled a coalition government.
According to Thai News Agency, Linthiporn emphasized that the People’s Party’s Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) explicitly stated that the Bhumjaithai Party should not form a majority government, maintaining its minority status. However, the current political landscape suggests otherwise, as the People’s Party’s role has facilitated the Bhumjaithai government’s majority under Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul. This majority is further reinforced by the attraction of MPs and politicians to the government, which the People’s Party cannot deny responsibility for.
Linthiporn highlighted that historically, no Thai government has gained executive power solely through opposition support, resulting in a minority government. She questioned the Prachachon Party’s responsibility, emphasizing the need for clarity beyond constitutional amendments. She criticized some senators for their reluctance to amend the constitution and called for the Pheu Thai Party to join the opposition in scrutinizing the government formed by the Prachachon Party.
She expressed concerns that the current political dynamics weaken the people’s power and fail to strengthen the political society. Linthiporn warned that this could lead to increased empowerment of independent organizations under the Senate, which are viewed with suspicion by society. She urged the People’s Party to demonstrate sincerity and responsibility before seeking cooperation from the Pheu Thai Party.
