Man Utd Triumphs Over Arsenal in Dramatic FA Cup Penalty Shootout


London: FA Cup defending champions Manchester United, reduced to 10 men, managed a dramatic victory over Arsenal in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, securing their place in the fourth round to face Leicester City.



According to Thai News Agency, the intense FA Cup Round 3 match saw Arsenal host Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. The first half ended without any goals. In the second half, Bruno Fernandes put Manchester United ahead in the 52nd minute. However, the dynamics shifted when Diogo Dalot received a yellow card followed by a red, leaving Manchester United with 10 players after a foul on Miguel Merino in the 61st minute.



Arsenal capitalized on their numerical advantage when Gabriel Magalhaes equalized in the 63rd minute. Arsenal had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 69th minute, but Martin Odegaard’s penalty was saved by Manchester United’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. The match remained level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, leading to extra time which also ended goalless.



Ultimately, the match was decided by penalties. Manchester United converted all five of their penalty attempts, while Arsenal’s Kai Havertz missed, resulting in a 5-3 victory for Manchester United, who will now face Leicester City in the fourth round.



In other FA Cup action, Premier League side Newcastle United defeated League Two team Bromley 3-1 at St James’ Park. Bromley initially took the lead through Cameron Congreve in the 8th minute, but Newcastle equalized with a goal from Miley in the 16th minute. Newcastle took control in the second half with a penalty converted by Anthony Gordon in the 49th minute and a final goal from William Osula in the 61st minute, securing their advancement to meet Birmingham in the next round.



Meanwhile, Division 5 team Tamworth FC, the only non-league team in the third round, hosted Tottenham Hotspur. Despite a scoreless 90 minutes, Spurs emerged victorious in extra time with a 3-0 win, courtesy of an own goal by Nathan Chicuna and goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson. Tottenham will face Aston Villa in round 4.



The FA Cup fourth round draw includes intriguing fixtures such as Manchester United vs. Leicester, Plymouth vs. Liverpool, Leyton or Derby vs. Man City, Brighton vs. Chelsea, Aston Villa vs. Spurs, Birmingham vs. Newcastle, and Everton vs. Bournemouth.
