Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto visited the Point Zero pillar of the Nusantara Capital City development in East Kalimantan.

“I was at Point Zero of Nusantara Capital City. The expectation is for the development to conclude soon as planned,” Hartarto said in a statement on Sunday.

The minister was also informed of the details of plans and stages of the city’s development, and he also planted some trees.

He emphasized that the capital city transfer was expected to suppress inequality and increase regional economic growth, thus support from all citizens is required.

The active roles of the public in supporting the sustainable development of Nusantara Capital City, include spreading information; communicating to the public about details of the preparations, development, transfer of Nusantara Capital City; and providing spaces to participate in and conduct public consultation, he added.

The government is currently pursuing the development of Nusantara Capital City in order to transfer the central government. Among the reasons for the move were economic disparities, uncontrolled population growth, a decline in environmental conditions and functions, and a decline in comfort.

The Nusantara Capital City development is stipulated in Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the National Capital, and has a vision to realize a ‘World City for All’, an ideal city which function as model in terms of the development and management of cities in Indonesia and the world. This vision aims to make the city a symbol of national identity, a sustainable city in the world, and a driving force for Indonesia’s economy in the future.

The transfer to Kalimantan and setting it as economic super hub is one strategy to ensure equal distribution of economic growth and development on western and eastern Indonesia, through the development of six economic clusters and two supporting clusters.

The six economic clusters include clean technology industry, integrated pharmacy, sustainable agriculture industry, ecotourism, chemicals and its products, and low carbon energy. On the other hand, the two supporting clusters consist of 21st century education and smart cities and Industry 4.0 centers.
