National Police to prepare traffic personnel for 2022 MotoGP

The National Police will prepare personnel and supporting facilities to manage traffic in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ), West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), during the implementation of the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP, an official has said.

“If it is necessary, we will deploy personnel and supporting facilities from the headquarters to Mandalika SEZ. We will coordinate about it further with the head of the NTB Regional Police,” head of the Traffic Corps of the National Police, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi, said.

He made the remarks during a meeting on preparations for securing the 2022 MotoGP pre-season test in West Lombok district, NTB province, according to a written statement issued on Saturday.

The meeting, which was also attended by the head of the traffic unit of the regional police, discussed ways to improve public services amid the implementation of the racing event, the press statement said.

The regional police have made adequate preparations for accommodating spectators since they have had experience in implementing the 2021 Mandalika World Superbike (WSBK), Shantyabudi noted.

“Earlier, the director of traffic of the NTB Regional Police had conveyed the traffic management plan amid the implementation of the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP. We believe that NTB Regional Police have learned much from the implementation of the 2021 Mandalika WSBK,” he added.

Several public infrastructures have been improved by the provincial government for the international sports event, he noted.

“We have seen there are a lot of improvements regarding the readiness of security personnel, buildings, roads, and parking areas of the circuit,” he added.

The Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit will host the pre-season test of the 2022 MotoGP from February 11–13, 2022, while the Mandalika series of the racing event will take place from March 18–20, 2022.

Around 65 thousand spectators are estimated to attend the racing event at the circuit. The Transportation Ministry has prepared 278 free shuttle buses that will pick up visitors from six departure points in the province and take them to the venue, officials said.
