According to Thai News Agency, the unrest erupted when the Karen National Liberation Front (KNLA) and other opposition fighters launched an assault on the Kanere base, a significant battalion-level Myanmar military outpost. The clash, marked by heavy gunfire, took place near the War Veterans Group in Phop Phra District, Tak Province. Meanwhile, additional skirmishes were reported as opposition groups targeted another Myanmar military installation at Thibabo Base in Thibabo Village, Sukari District, Myawaddy District, Karen State, Myanmar.
The intensity of the second confrontation led to a mass exodus of civilians from the affected areas. Fearing for their safety, 290 Burmese individuals, including families with children, sought refuge in Thailand. They have been relocated to three temporary shelters in Phop Phra District. Thai authorities, including the Rajamanu Task Force, Naresuan Task Force, and Phop Phra District Administration, have coordinated efforts with local public health teams to ensure the safety and well-being of the displaced individuals, adhering to humanitarian principles.
Thai security forces continue to maintain a vigilant presence in Phop Phra District, ensuring the stability and protection of Thailand’s border amid the ongoing tensions. The situation remains closely monitored as troops are deployed around the clock to safeguard the region’s sovereignty.
