The COVID-19 pandemic that has protracted for almost two years worldwide has thrown various complex challenges at Indonesia and the world despite recovery of the global economy, Bank Indonesia’s Governor Perry Warjiyo stated.

“For almost two years, we have learnt a lot about how to solve very complex problems arising from this pandemic,” Warjiyo noted at the Bank Indonesia Book Launch & Research Expo online event here on Monday.

To this end, the governor noted that such challenges will be discussed within the scope of the six agendas of the Indonesia’s G20 Presidency finance track in 2022.

The first of these agendas is how to normalize fiscal and monetary policies that could support a balanced global economy without triggering uncertainty in the financial market.

The second agenda is how to handle the scaring effects of the pandemic on corporations, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The third concerns the issue of digitalization of the financial economy, including the payment system.

The fourth agenda is green economy and finance, while the fifth pertains to economic and financial inclusion. The last agenda concerns international taxation.

“These are global and national problems that require prompt answers from policies based on conceptual, theoretical, and empirical thinking,” Warjiyo affirmed.

In addition, BI unveiled two books titled: Central Bank Policy Mix: Issues, Challenges and Policy Responses as well as Periphery and Small Ones Matter: Interplay of Policy and Social Capital.

The launch mirrors support to developing science in addressing various problems arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This unveiling proves that BI is a scientific development institution, and this is our form of dedication to the nation,” the BI governor asserted.
