Pheu Thai Yet to Decide on Filing Complaint Against Bhumjaithai and People’s Party

Bangkok: Pheu Thai has not yet made a decision regarding filing a complaint against the Bhumjaithai Party and the People’s Party concerning the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Chusak Sirinil, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Pheu Thai Party, emphasized that the draft submitted to MPs is not being put forward for signatures, as the party is waiting to see the formation of the new cabinet before moving forward. Chusak dismissed any criticism regarding the movement of MPs to the Bhumjaithai Party, stating he was unaware and did not sign any agreement.

According to Thai News Agency, the issue arose when public lawyer Nattawut Wongniam submitted a letter to the Pheu Thai Party, requesting it be forwarded to the Constitutional Court. The case involved Prime Minister and Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the Prachachon Party, and 212 MPs from both parties. Wongniam also filed a petition with the Attorney General, urging the dissolution of the Prachachon and Bhumjaithai parties due to the MOA. Chusak clarified that the Pheu Thai Party did not appoint anyone for this matter but acknowledged that some party members were familiar with each other and had informal discussions. The final decision on whether to review or continue the process rests with the party, not just the draft submitted for signatures.

Mr. Chusak stated, “Once the petition was received, we would have the legal team review it to see if it was valid. But what we’re all in agreement on right now is that we want to wait for the new Cabinet to be approved by Royal Command. Then, we can decide on the right course of action.”

When questioned about the People’s Party MPs’ concerns over the MOA being used for political destruction, Mr. Chusak reiterated that there are no intentions to destroy any party. The focus is on observing the Cabinet’s state to determine if there are any viable options. The Pheu Thai Party is not considering dissolving any party at this time.

Regarding the potential violation of the MOA due to the increasing number of groups joining the Bhumjaithai Party, Mr. Chusak stated that it is the business of the Bhumjaithai Party, and the Pheu Thai Party is not involved. He refrained from commenting on the matter, emphasizing that they had not signed the MOA with Bhumjaithai.
