PPRP Expels 20 MPs from Thammanat’s Group Amid Ideological Differences

BANGKOK: The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has expelled 20 members of parliament affiliated with Colonel Thammanat Prompao, citing ideological differences while maintaining amicable relations. These members, including Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn and Mr. Pai Lik, are deliberating on their political futures and the possibility of joining a new party.

According to Thai News Agency, the decision to expel the MPs was made during a meeting of the party’s executive committee and was based on Regulation 54(5), reflecting a divergence in ideology rather than any ethical or disciplinary violations. Mr. Atthakorn emphasized that the expulsion process was conducted in good spirits and the group remains committed to advancing the country’s interests.

The MPs are now considering their next political move, acknowledging the necessity of time to decide which party to join. Mr. Atthakorn suggested that their collective 20 votes could play a significant role in supporting the current government led by Prime Minister Ms. P
aethongtarn Shinawatra. The Election Commission has provided a 30-day window for these MPs to affiliate themselves with a new party.

Colonel Thammanat did not attend the meeting but expressed a unified commitment to progressing the nation with minimal disruptions. Mr. Atthakorn clarified that there is currently no involvement with the Kla Tham Party, although he acknowledged the presence of Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat and her leadership role within the party.

Mr. Atthakorn also commented on the group’s respect for General Prawit Wongsuwan, the leader of the PPRP, stating that despite the current circumstances, they remain concerned about the party’s future and hope it continues to prioritize the people’s interests. He refrained from speculating on General Prawit’s political future but expressed hope for the party’s continued strength.

When questioned about future meetings with General Prawit, Mr. Atthakorn indicated plans to make an appointment but remained noncommittal about specific occasions such as New Ye
ar greetings. The decision to expel the MPs marks a significant shift within the PPRP, as the party navigates internal challenges and ideological realignments.
