Officials prepare to move two elephants, ‘Plai Khundet and Plai Dok Kaew’, after a dramatic incident, while almost 48 hours have passed and a 10-year-old girl who went missing in Sukhothai Province has not been found. The latest update is that police dogs are being used to help search.
Two elephants will have to move to a new home: Plai Khundej and Plai Dok Kaew, aged 14, who have been cared for by the Elephant Care Center of the Elephant Conservation and Environment Foundation for 10 years. Plai Khundej is an elephant belonging to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation who was caught in a hunter’s snare and left his front left leg disabled. Plai Dok Kaew is an orphan after his mother fell.
Both of them were brought to the care of the foundation by Ms. Kanchana Silpa-archa, Advisor to the Minister of Human Development and Security, 10 years ago. However, after the flooding of the elephant care center, Phang Fa Sai and Phang Ploy Thong of the foundation were swept away by the water
and caused a drama about the foundation’s care of animals on social media.
Ms. Saengduan, President of the Elephant Conservation and Environment Foundation, said that if they were uncomfortable with the elephants being here, they should come and get the elephants they had left there. Ms. Kanchana contacted government agencies and other elephant camps to come and get the two elephants back since yesterday evening (October 9). However, they were unable to remove the elephants because the officers arrived late at night. In addition, Phlai Khun Det is a wild elephant belonging to the Department of National Parks, so the Director-General must sign an approval for the move. Phlai Dok Kaew is an elephant under the care of the Department of Livestock Development, so it can be moved immediately. The moving team is currently preparing to move Phlai Dok Kaew to an elephant camp in the Rom Daen Chang project in Tambon Inthakil, Amphoe Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai Province. As for Phlai Khun Det, it is expected that he will hav
e to be brought back to the National Elephant Institute or the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang Province.
Police dogs are being prepared to search for a missing 10-year-old child.
Meanwhile, a search operation for a 10-year-old girl on the bank of the Yom River was triggered by a landslide that caused her house to collapse. The 10-year-old girl is still under the collapsed debris and mud, and has not been found. It has been almost 48 hours since the incident.
The rescue team recently prepared to bring police dogs to join the search operation with rescue personnel and 2 large backhoes. Initially, the backhoes cleared the way for the rescue team to go to the scene and are ready to carry out the operation.
This morning (10 Oct), the rescue team worked hard to plan the rescue, while the relatives of the 10-year-old girl lit incense sticks to ask for forgiveness and prayed for the safety of the rescue team in the search and that the unfortunate girl would be found today.
