President calls on Army, Police officers to quash conflicts

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) to obliterate any conflict between them in future.

“Sometimes, frictions between the officers of TNI and Polri still arise. This is prohibited from happening in future. It must be eliminated,” President Jokowi noted at the Jakarta State Palace, Tuesday.

The head of state delivered the message during the ceremony of Prasetya Perwira (Praspa) 2021, an inauguration for the TNI and Polri graduates of the academy held virtually. However, the event still invited the best graduates from each military and police academy as representatives.

Attendees at the inauguration also comprised Vice President Ma’ruf Amin; Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Coordinating Minister Mahfud MD; Indonesian Defense Forces Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto; Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; Army Chief of Staff Jenderal TNI Andika Perkasa; Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Yudo Margono; Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo; as well as other related officials.

“The TNI and Polri are crucial institutions in maintaining the defense and security of the Republic of Indonesia. Hence, they must continue to cooperate and coordinate for the benefit of the nation, state, and people of Indonesia,” the president emphasized. Jokowi highlighted that unity and integrity were the main strengths of the nation to face the increasingly challenging global competition.

“It is impossible for us to win the global competition if there is no solid synergy within the country. Social and cultural diversity must be used as our strength and source of inspiration,” he affirmed.

To this end, the president called on all components of the nation to consolidate as “Indonesia incorporated” for a firm standing amid the increasingly stiff global competition.

“I instruct all institutions to synergize in fulfilling this incredibly difficult task, especially between the TNI and Polri. Other departments also have to cooperate in favor of the nation and its development,” the president noted.

The head of state believed this COVID-19 crisis could strengthen the concern and cooperation of the TNI and Polri.

“We also need to improve our work ethics and accelerate the advancement of our technology and industries,” he emphasized.

The president additionally instructed youth graduates of the TNI and Polri to participate in tackling the crisis. “You should learn from this crisis to strengthen our unity based on our ideology of Pancasila,” Jokowi stated.

A total of 700 young TNI and Polri officers were inaugurated at the event.

Some 227 new officers graduated from the Military Academy, 101 officers from the Navy Academy, 91 officers from the Air Force Academy, and 281 officers from the Police Academy.
