The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) reiterated its commitment to developing green infrastructure projects to realise carbon emission reduction policies.

“In the water resources sector, the ministry has attempted to develop a government-enterprise cooperation scheme for hydroelectric power plants, mini-hydro power plants, micro-hydro power plants, and solar power plants. We also have the potential to develop dams to support power plants,” the ministry’s Director of Water Resources Financing Implementation of the Directorate General of Public Works and Housing Infrastructure Financing, Arvi Argyantoro, stated on Saturday.

The directorate general official added that the ministry has also developed solar power plants for homes by installing solar panels on house roofs.

“This project has been implemented in a pilot under the Savings-based Housing Financing Assistance (BP2BT) programme at a subsidised housing complex in South Sumatra. We have installed rooftop solar panels for the houses,” he noted.

He also pointed out hydroelectric power plant projects that have been initiated by the ministry’s assistance in several regions, such as Central Java, Yogyakarta, and Banten.

To ensure the budget for the projects, the ministry implemented the government-enterprise cooperation scheme, such as for a micro-hydro power plant project  in Bintang Bano, West Nusa Tenggara, the official said.

“The projects is initiated by private enterprise Brantas Energy. This demonstrates our openness to (cooperation with) enterprises if they see the potential of our dams. If (enterprises) sees a potential (to convert our dam) as a hydroelectric power plant, we welcome their request to become the initiator (of the project),” Argyantoro said.

He remarked that in supporting the government’s policies to reduce greenhouse gas and carbon emissions and reducing climate change effects, the ministry is committed to supporting green infrastructure development in the water resources sector.
