SOEs Minister inaugurates revitalised recording studio Lokananta

Surakarta, Central Java (ANTARA) – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir on Saturday inaugurated the revitalized state-owned recording studio Lokananta, which had undergone renovation since November 2022.The minister said the government presented the revitalized Lokananta to Indonesian youth and the music community to develop national culture. “Lokananta is a collaborative space that the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, the central and regional governments, have presented to Indonesia’s music community and the youth of Surakarta and Central Java, so that we can create new works and optimize our culture,” Thohir said in Surakarta, Central Java. “Because we do not want to become a developed country without culture, which is dangerous, and we must preserve our culture,” he added. The revitalization of the complex, owned by state printing company Perum Percetakan Nasional RI (PNRI), was conducted through a collaboration between state-owned holding company PT Danareksa and its subsidiary, PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset, with the Surakarta municipal government. He said that the revitalization of the Lokananta complex is to develop and optimize state-owned assets sustainably and responsibly. “We are not merely renovating it, but also ensuring it will be sustainable, as we have done with the Sarinah complex in Jakarta, which has become a popular destination,” Thohir emphasized. Despite being a historical asset and a pioneer in national music development since its founding in 1956, Lokananta had long been neglected before the revitalization. The minister added that research on the studio had been conducted before the renovation was allowed to proceed. Following the revitalization of its facilities, Lokananta relaunched itself as a creative and commercial hub for local and international musicians. The company also embarked on a new approach to diversifying its business by making the Lokananta complex a museum and gallery, recording studio, music and art festival venue, and culinary area.
