Justice Minister Thawee asks for fairness, denies helping Pheu Thai MPs, says Tak Bai case has been through many governments but progresses in Paethongtarn’s era, insists state officials are not in idle gear, expedites investigation to bring those involved to court after news broke that they are abroad, and is looking for ways to extend the case.
Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, mentioned the case of the Tak Bai suspects who are currently seeking asylum abroad, saying that he wanted the government to be fair to them because the birth certificate revocation case occurred 20 years ago and has been through many governments, and it seems like nothing has been done. However, the current government, the police, has forwarded the case file to the process, and now the prosecutor has ordered the prosecution of the group of civil servants who were on duty, which the prosecutor believes should have seen the results and ordered the prosecution of this government, and the court has accepted the prosecution
of this government as well. There are currently 25 days left. However, the goal of the people is not to feel resentful, but to want all the defendants to enter the court’s consideration process. Therefore, if the court issues an arrest warrant, it is the duty of the police officers.
When asked if the case came too close to the deadline, Pol. Col. Thawee said it was a challenging time, and Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Vejjayachai had already spoken about the matter, so he wanted the media to ask for more information because he was the one overseeing the police. If this matter were allowed to pass without entering the judicial process, it would be a stain on each person.
When asked about the feelings of the people affected by the Tak Bai case, who thought that the authorities were not rushing to take action and were waiting for the statute of limitations to expire, Pol. Col. Thaweesodsong said that state officials were taking action, but the investigation and arrest must be confidential
and every means must be used, so he wanted to see that the case of the cutting of leaves was resolved in this government. As for whether all the suspects will go to court, he believed that the police were working at the moment.
As for the case where the person involved is a Pheu Thai Party MP, will it be seen as kidnapping or helping each other? Pol. Col. Thawee said that it is not yet time for the court to set a date and he does not know whether the arrest warrant has been issued or not. Today, no one can take him away. We have to wait for the arrest warrant first.
When asked if this matter was resolved by the current government, if those involved could not be brought to court until the statute of limitations expired, it would also affect the government’s credibility, Pol. Col. Thawee said that he believed that the people understood the sincerity of the government’s work, and that there were 25 days left, so he asked for time to work first.
