Warawut’ orders the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in the provinces along the Mekong River to prepare for flooding, work proactively, and take care of vulnerable groups: ‘young children, women, the elderly, the disabled, and bedridden patients.’
Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, revealed that from the critical flood situation in the North in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces, and currently the amount of water in the Mekong River has continued to flow to the downstream provinces, on September 13, he asked Mr. Anukul Peedkaew, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security) and all directors-general of all departments, including the heads of all units of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, to take care of the areas receiving water from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces, whether it be Chiang Khan District, Loei Province,
Bueng Kan, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, especially ending in Ubon Ratchathani Province, which is considered a point where a lot of water will gather.
We would like to ask all officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in every province along the Mekong River to prepare for the situation. The latest report is that the water has reached the center of Nong Khai Province. The people are suffering quite a bit. Therefore, the main thing that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security must urgently take care of is the vulnerable people, whether they are the elderly, the disabled, or young children, because they are a group that will take longer than usual to move, especially the elderly who tend to be homebound and do not want to go anywhere.
Importantly, there are additional equipment, whether for the disabled or the elderly, there will be various tools that must be attached when moving. We have asked the officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security,
whether it is the Social Development and Human Security Volunteers (SDHSV), the only MSDHS team in each province, to urgently survey and see in each area which village, sub-district, and district these vulnerable groups are in, so that when the time comes to move or to be able to provide assistance in a timely manner.
In addition to taking care of vulnerable groups, the places of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, including centers, stations, houses, and settlements, if there is any place that can be opened to support the people who are suffering from the flood problem, the people can use the service 24 hours a day, which has a tidy bathroom, food, and drinking water that can alleviate the suffering of the people in various provinces.
I would like to give my encouragement to all the people affected by the flooding, especially the rescue volunteers, especially all the officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security who are working diligently, overcoming many dangers t
o help the people who are suffering in this time of crisis. We all must hold hands and walk together, and on behalf of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, I would like to give my encouragement to all the people.
For vulnerable groups, special care must be taken, whether they are the elderly, the disabled, young children, or even single mothers who have many responsibilities. This group of people that I mentioned earlier will need special care because the process of moving them, the process of taking them to a new place, requires manpower and sometimes equipment. Therefore, I would like the officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to go and investigate first to see where these vulnerable groups are.
