Phitsanulok: The world’s largest gold-plated Somdej Phra Nang Phaya statue has been completed, marking a new landmark in the heart of Phitsanulok. It is situated at Wat Ratchaburana, with a grand celebration and Buddha consecration ceremony scheduled for December 7.
According to Thai News Agency, the Phra Nang Phaya Ong Yai Buddha Sanctuary, located in Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Phitsanulok Province, is now home to the fully gilded Phra Nang Phaya statue. This monumental Buddha image, which measures 8 meters in width, 12 meters in height, and 4 meters in depth, has been meticulously covered with over 200,000 sheets of 100% pure gold. The golden statue’s brilliance is visible from afar, solidifying its status as a landmark within Phitsanulok City.
Preparations are underway at the temple for the completion ceremony of the large Somdet Phra Nang Phaya and the consecration of all Phra Nang Phaya statues housed within Wat Ratchaburana. This event is anticipated to draw both locals and tourists on December
7.
Phra Nang Phaya is regarded as one of the five most venerated Buddha images in Thailand, holding a special place in the hearts of Thai people nationwide. Visitors to Phitsanulok Province are encouraged to pay homage to the magnificent statue at Wat Ratchaburana to seek good fortune.
Phra Khru Sitthithamwiphat, the abbot of Wat Ratchaburana, expressed his relief and satisfaction with the completion of the gilding project. He emphasized the collective effort and intention of Buddhists and various stakeholders in creating this beautiful symbol of Phitsanulok.
