100-percent offline schooling again implemented in 28 Jakarta schools

Some 28 schools in Jakarta have again begun implementing the 100-percent capacity face-to-face learning (PTM) after being closed down ever since COVID-19 cases were found, Jakarta’s Deputy Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria, stated.

“To this day, 28 schools have again started conducting PTM. Some 15 schools are still closed,” he noted at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

Earlier, 45 schools had stopped conducting 100-percent capacity PTM after 72 people were exposed to COVID-19, he noted.

Out of these 72 people, 67 were students followed by two educators and three education workers.

However, Patria believes that the people who contracted COVID-19 were exposed outside the school as the close contact tracing test in school had yielded a negative result.

“Based on data, on average, one or two (cases) are found in each school. There are schools that found three, but it is one on average,” he noted.

“This means the infection did not occur at school, home, or during the trip,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor is deliberating on two sessions of PTM, but his side still refers to the Four Ministers Joint Decree (SKB) on Learning Activities during the COVID-19 Pandemic Guide.

“We consider many recommendations from everyone, but once again, the Education Office will continue to monitor, evaluate, and coordinate with the Central Government on this along with the Education Ministry,” he remarked.

He reiterated that Jakarta had fulfilled the requirement to implement the 100-percent capacity PTM as the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) level two had been imposed there.

In addition, the high vaccination coverage encourages the Jakarta provincial government to continue the 100-percent PTM.

“The vaccination rate of educators has reached 92 percent; education workers, 89 percent; and students, 98 percent. Jakarta has reached a vaccination rate of 71 percent for the elderly. This means Jakarta has fulfilled the condition,” he affirmed.
