The opening ceremony of the 13th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG), the largest regional sports gathering for school students, was held at the Tien Son Sports Complex in the central city of Da Nang on June 1. The competition, which kicked off with a basketball event on May 31, features intense matches among athletes representing regional contenders in 107 events of six sports, namely swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, Pencak Silat, and Vovinam. Lasting to June 9 under the theme ‘Connect to Shine Bright’, the 13th ASG saw the participation of about 1,300 athletes and coaches from 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
