BANGKOK: Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the Minister of Transport, has confirmed that a new 20 baht flat-rate electric train system will begin operations in September 2025, connecting five major lines, as part of efforts to reduce commuting costs for residents.
According to Thai News Agency, the initiative will encompass five electric train lines, significantly lowering travel expenses for commuters who currently pay up to 150 baht for similar routes. This effort is expected to simplify travel from the MRT, bypassing Pak Kret, to the Airport Rail Link at Suvarnabhumi. The project aims to alleviate financial burdens on commuters by eliminating the need for multiple tickets across different lines.
In conjunction with the transport initiative, Mr. Suriya also encouraged participation in the Baan Puea Thai housing project. This scheme offers affordable housing solutions utilizing land from the State Railway of Thailand, with options for installment payments up to 30 years and a 99-year lease term. The model homes w
ill be unveiled on January 20, 2025, at Central Station, and will initially be available for reservation at four locations: Bang Na, Thon Buri, Chiang Rak, and Chiang Mai, comprising approximately 1,000 units.
The housing project stipulates that owners must reside in their homes for a minimum of five years before transferring ownership. This initiative aims to provide Thai citizens with long-term housing security, with monthly payments set at 4,000 baht.
