Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo reported that the 4th 2022 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting will discuss the handling of stagflation potentials that threatened various countries’ economic growth.
“We will jointly address the global (issues) by coordinating (with) the G20 (members) to mitigate the risk of stagflation,” he stated when met ahead of the meeting here on Wednesday evening local time.
The FMCBG is organized by Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency under the Finance Track to discuss various global economic and finance issues.
The BI governor stated that the harmonization of macroeconomics and monetary policies will continue to be discussed at the meeting to prevent the rising commodities prices and inflation rate to worsen the current economic downturn.
Furthermore, the FMCBG meeting would discuss about mitigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak on various sectors as well as cooperation on cross-border payments and central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Warjiyo remarked that other agenda of the meeting included financial inclusion, green financing, and international taxation that had become the main discussions during the earlier three 2022 G20 FMCBG meetings.
Furthermore, he ensured that Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency will continue to echo the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding in the midst of various global turmoil that could disrupt the world’s economic growth.
“Sense of togetherness in the G20 forum is important (to be maintained), as currently, the management of global macroeconomic policies is showing a lot of progress, especially for financial risk mitigation,” he added.
The 4th FMCBG is being held on October 12-13, 2022, in Washington D.C., the U.S.
Earlier, the first 2022 G20 FMCBG took place in February 2022 in Jakarta; the second meeting was held in April 2022 in Washington D.C.; while the third one was organized in July 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali Province.
