Abbot’s Educational Claims Under Scrutiny Amid Temple Donation Investigation

Bangkok: The Crime Suppression Division is intensifying its investigation into the credentials of Phra Alongkot, the abbot of Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, as well as the associated allegations of fraud involving Mr. Seksan, also known as Dr. B. While the investigation into the “Phra Alongkot” Primary School has yielded no results regarding his name, the inquiry continues amid questions about his educational background and donation practices at the temple.

According to Thai News Agency, a popular Facebook page has sparked controversy by questioning how Phra Alongkot could have graduated with an engineering degree in 1976 when he was reportedly still in Mathayom 2 in 1975. Inquiries with the Primary and Secondary Educational Service Area Offices revealed that Phra Alongkot claimed to have graduated from a primary school that no longer appears in records. Additionally, while it is confirmed that he completed Mathayom 2 at Kaen Nakhon Wittayalai School in 1975, doubts persist regarding his higher education qualifications.

Deputy Commander Police Colonel Anek Taosuphap of the Crime Suppression Division announced that a working group is set to convene to assess the investigation’s progress concerning Dr. B’s conduct, which may involve fraudulent activities related to donations for Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu. Although significant advancements have been made, undisclosed evidence remains. Authorities currently believe that Dr. B has not fled, though he remains unprosecuted and is not yet a suspect.

In a related development, criminologist Professor Trin Phothiraksa posted a cryptic message reading “Flee” on social media, generating a flurry of reactions from the public.

Meanwhile, the legal team for Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu has postponed a scheduled press conference intended to address issues surrounding land and donations. The postponement is attributed to the need for additional time to compile necessary documents. The team has indicated that a future press conference will be held once preparations are complete.
