Bangkok: The investigation into the robbery of a Chinese tourist in the Huai Khwang area is being expedited amid revelations that the incident occurred across multiple locations, targeting victims in tourist hotspots. Locals are suspected to be involved in the crimes. The victim expressed gratitude to the Thai police and is prepared to return to the country.
According to Thai News Agency, after a nearly three-hour meeting where victims provided additional testimony, Police Colonel Prasopchok Iampinij, Superintendent of Huai Khwang Police Station, disclosed that the victims could not identify the arrested suspects involved in the operation. The incident was complicated by the difference in road level between the vehicle and the driver, who did not fully cooperate with investigators. The victims also identified two other suspects as Asians with accents similar to Thais. Further investigations have revealed that similar crimes have been reported in other tourist destinations, which are now under scrutiny.
The victim, who visits Thailand frequently, averaging once a month, had arrived just a day before the incident took place. Residing in the Huai Khwang area, known for its significant Chinese community, the victim’s living situation may have made her a target. Investigators plan to contact the owner of the car tent involved to gather more information.
In a statement to the media, the victim expressed appreciation for the swift action of the Thai police in apprehending one suspect. She stated that the incident did not instill fear in her and affirmed her intention to continue visiting Thailand for tourism.
