AIPA-45: NA Chairman Proposes Enhancements for ASEAN Parliamentary Role


VIENTIANE: National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man put forward significant proposals to enhance the role of parliaments in boosting ASEAN connectivity. The proposals were presented during the first plenary session of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45) held in Vientiane, Laos.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Tran Thanh Man emphasized the importance of prioritizing directions that would strengthen the interconnectivity among ASEAN member states. His proposals aim to fortify the collaborative functions of parliaments within the region, with a focus on fostering legislative cooperation and regional integration.

The proposals include initiatives to improve legislative frameworks and promote dialogue between member states. These initiatives are seen as vital steps in enhancing the effectiveness of ASEAN’s collective efforts in addressing regional challenges. Tran Thanh Man highlighted the need for parliaments to play a proactive role in policy-making and oversight to
achieve these objectives.

The plenary session gathered parliamentary leaders from across the ASEAN region, providing a platform for discussions on enhancing cooperation and addressing common regional issues. The proposed directions by Tran Thanh Man are expected to be a focal point for future discussions and strategic planning within AIPA.
