Former president Megawati Soekarnoputri stated that Pancasila has universal values, so all nations worldwide can apply them, particularly to solve peace-related problems.
“All nations, of course, have their own internal will and interests. However, the response with Pancasila is very positive because in each of the five precepts, they always have admiration from the first to the fifth precepts. Hence, I think this is actually universal and can be used by the world,” Megawati noted in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday.
The Indonesian ex-president made this statement on the response of other countries regarding the idea of Pancasila for world peace while adding that the response was good.
On Thursday (September 15), Megawati is scheduled to serve as keynote speaker at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity in South Korea. According to information, some two thousand participants attended the 17th Jeju Forum.
Several important guests or VIPs from various countries are scheduled to attend and deliver material at this event. In addition to delivering a speech, Megawati will distribute the book of Pancasila, the Basics of the Indonesian State.
“I am invited to be a keynote speaker because I always say that Indonesia has Pancasila, which actually can be used by all nations in the world, especially in terms of (handling) peace issues,” she noted.
According to Megawati, this was her third visit to South Korea to speak at a peace forum.
In addition to the 17th Jeju Forum this year, Megawati has been a speaker at the forum in 2017 and the DMZ International Forum on the Peace Economy in 2019.
During her tenure as president of the Republic of Indonesia and after taking office, Megawati visited Pyongyang, North Korea, several times to carry across a message of peace.
Megawati spoke of having shared close relations with South and North Korea.
“It is very close because the leaders in North and South Korea really want me to be a special envoy,” she remarked.
