State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I served 4,715,166 passengers and 39,706 flights through the 15 airports under its management in June this year.
“The number of passengers had grown quite high compared to the same period last year. The increasing passenger trend in 2022 is certainly a positive sign (for the revival of air transport services),” president director of AP I, Faik Fahmi, remarked in a statement issued here on Saturday.
During the corresponding period of 2021, AP I served 3,447,077 passengers and 42,324 flights, he informed.
Thus, compared to June 2021, passenger movement grew by 37 percent. However, the number of flights declined by 6 percent.
Out of the 15 airports, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali province served the largest number of passengers in June: 745,188 domestic passengers and 364,910 international passengers.
Meanwhile, the number of flights operated from the airport reached 7,027, consisting of 5,105 domestic flights and 1,922 international flights.
The second busiest airport in June was Juanda Airport in East Java province, which recorded a total of 855,345 domestic flight passengers and 74,334 international flight passengers. In addition, it served 65,942 transit passengers.
Juanda Airport also managed 6,839 flights during the period, including 6,355 flights serving domestic routes and 484 flights serving international routes.
Furthermore, Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in South Sulawesi province also recorded a high number of passengers and flights in June.
Overall, the airport served 873,809 passengers — 658,087 domestic passengers, 9,584 international passengers, and 206,138 transit passengers.
Meanwhile, 6,768 domestic flights and 61 international flights were operated from the airport in June 2022.
AP I has appealed to prospective passengers to consistently comply with the health protocols while traveling by air although the prevailing COVID-19 situation in Indonesia is showing an improving trend compared to 2021, the president director said.
The COVID-19 Handling Task Force has issued fresh circulars concerning the booster vaccination requirements for domestic and international travelers.
Circular Letter (SE) Number 21 of 2022 on the Requirements for Domestic Travelers will come into effect starting July 17, 2022.
Meanwhile, SE Number 22 of 2022 concerning the Requirements for International Travelers came into effect on July 8.
