Amman: The foreign ministers of the Arab Ministerial Committee have underscored the necessity to counteract Israeli measures aimed at altering the Arab, Islamic, and Christian character of occupied Jerusalem. During a recent meeting in Amman, attended by representatives from the League of Arab States and countries including Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Malaysia, the committee expressed a united stance against Israeli policies affecting Jerusalem and its sacred sites.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, highlighted the violation of holy sites by Israel and the imposition on freedom of worship, emphasizing that sovereignty over occupied land remains with its rightful owners. Safadi reaffirmed the exclusive status of Al-Aqsa Mosque as a Muslim worship site and called for international intervention to halt the Israeli transgressions.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Farsin Aghabekian Shahin warned of the severe stages of Israeli targeting in Jerusalem, exacerbated by ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the West Bank. She called for a strategic rescue plan to safeguard Jerusalem's identity and strengthen Palestinian resilience amid what she termed as genocide in Gaza and accelerated Israeli colonial policies.
Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, cautioned against the religious conflict risk posed by Israeli policies, urging a comprehensive campaign to expose such plans. Fahmy also highlighted the role of the Arab League in addressing the temporal and spatial divisions of Al-Aqsa Mosque and supporting the Jerusalemites facing displacement.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar echoed calls for international accountability and decisive actions against settlement expansions and demographic alterations in Palestinian territories. Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti emphasized the need for unified Arab and Islamic efforts to uphold Jerusalem's historical and legal status.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated the call for a just resolution to the Palestinian issue, noting the importance of adhering to ceasefire agreements and respecting UN resolutions. They stressed the collective responsibility of the international community to protect Jerusalem and its inhabitants from ongoing violations.
The committee's discussions highlighted the urgent need for practical measures and international coordination to safeguard Jerusalem's identity and ensure the rights of the Palestinian people, with a view towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace.
