Su-ngai kolok: Arrest warrants have been issued for two suspects involved in a gold robbery at a popular shopping mall in Narathiwat, after DNA testing confirmed their identities. The latest confirmed total amount of gold lost is 540 baht.
According to Thai News Agency, in the latest developments on the case of more than 10 armed robbers who robbed a famous shopping mall in Narathiwat, a source involved in the investigation revealed that DNA tests conducted at the gold shop and on two pickup trucks used by the robbers have identified three individuals. However, one of the three individuals was a fingerprint belonging to a mall security guard. Upon examination, no connection or knowledge of the robbers was found, so the case was canceled. Authorities have taken the remaining two individuals to be examined for security-related offenses and have requested approval from the Narathiwat Provincial Court, which issued arrest warrants for both individuals today. One of them is Mr. Bakri Samae. The second individual, also residing in Su-ngai Padi District, cannot yet be identified as his name is still being investigated and authorities are working to identify the network involved in the robbery, fearing the remaining suspects will flee.
At the shopping mall where the incident occurred, Narathiwat Provincial Police have today implemented increased security measures to build confidence among residents and tourists. This includes installing bulletproof bunkers at the entrance and preparing for police presence. The mall is considered the economic heart of Su-ngai Kolok.
While the gold shop has reopened for business, it is not yet selling gold jewelry. This is an opportunity for customers who pawn their gold jewelry with the shop to present evidence to the shop to verify whether the gold was stolen by the robbers on the day of the incident. If it is found that the gold was lost on the day of the incident, the shop will be responsible for compensating the shop for all damages. An investigation into the stolen gold found a total of 540 baht out of the total 800 baht in gold jewelry in the shop.
