B20 asks South Korean businesses to support net-zero programs

Business20 (B20) Indonesia has invited South Korean business players to support and join B20’s legacy programs for realizing the goal of net zero emissions.

“I am optimistic that the Carbon Center of Excellence platform can be a mutually beneficial solution for Indonesia and South Korea’s investment opportunities,” B20 chair Shinta Kamdani said during a visit to Seoul, South Korea.

Based on its official website, B20 is an outreach group of the G20 that represents the international business community. Through the presence of businesses from all over the world, B20 reflects the role of the private sector as a driver of strong, sustainable, and balanced economic growth.

According to Kamdani, B20 Indonesia has produced two legacy programs, one of which is the Carbon Center of Excellence, which is helping navigate carbon trading issues through the sharing of knowledge and best practices.

Another legacy program of B20 Indonesia is the “B20 Wiki,” a platform that aims to increase the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to help them enter the global supply chain.

During the visit, B20 delegates, representatives from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Dukgeun, representatives from the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and several South Korean business players held a business meeting to discuss opportunities for economic, investment, and trade partnerships between Indonesia and South Korea.

South Korean Giant SK Group expressed an interest in investing US$100 million to encourage decarbonization in the Asian region, Kamdani informed.

“Therefore, we would like to invite South Korean businesses to support and join in the efforts and implementation of the platform (B20 legacy programs) to achieve the common goal of transitioning to net zero emissions,” she said.

In 2021, South Korea was Indonesia’s third-largest investor in the joint venture battery project.

During the visit, the B20 delegates and Kadin representatives also conveyed the policy recommendations formulated by B20’s Task Force and Action Council and disseminated information regarding the B20 Summit, which will be held in Bali in November 2022.
