Bangchak Group Spearheads SAF Pipeline Pilot to Bangkok Airports

Bangkok: Bangchak Group, in collaboration with Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services (BAFS) and BAFS Pipeline Transportation Limited (BPT), has launched a pilot project to integrate Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into the pipeline system for Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports. This initiative marks a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector, with the goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiwat Kovavisarach, CEO of Bangchak Group and President of Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, alongside executives from Bangchak, Mr. Jaksanit Krissadajai, Executive Vice President of BAFS, and Mr. Jessada Tupiya, Managing Director of BPT, have jointly presided over the commencement of this pilot project. The project involves the blending of SAF with traditional jet fuel (Jet A1) and aims to prepare the infrastructure necessary for the broader adoption of SAF by domestic and international airlines operating through these ma
jor Thai airports.

The initiative not only supports the global aviation industry’s commitment to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards but also positions Thailand as a leader in clean energy within Southeast Asia. Bangchak has invested over 8.5 billion baht in the development of SAF production facilities at the Bangchak Refinery in Phra Khanong. These facilities, which convert used cooking oil into SAF, are expected to commence operations in early Q2 2025, with a projected production capacity of 1 million liters per day. This strategic move is set to enhance economic opportunities while advancing environmental sustainability in the region.
