Bangkok prepares for the rising Chao Phraya River from 13-23 October.

Bangkok is not careless, preparing materials, equipment, and sandbags to cope with the situation of the Chao Phraya River rising from 13-23 Oct.

Mr. Ekwaranyu Amrapal, spokesman of Bangkok, revealed about the preparation for the flood situation of Bangkok that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center (DDPM) has monitored the weather conditions and considered the risk factors. The Royal Irrigation Department has sent a letter stating that the upper part of Thailand has unstable weather conditions with thunderstorms, strong winds, and very heavy rain in some areas of the North and Central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. Therefore, it is necessary to release water through the Chao Phraya Dam at a rate not exceeding 2,200 cubic meters per second. In addition, during October, the Chao Phraya River will experience high tides, especially during October 13-23, 2024, which will cause the water level to rise from the current by approximately 0.60-0.70 meters from October 6, 2024 onwa
rds. The water situation should be monitored from the C29 water measurement station in Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, which currently (October 6, 2024) shows that the water flows through at a rate of 1,865 cubic meters per second.

In order to prepare for such a situation and to take care of the people, Bangkok, by the Drainage and Sewerage Office and the district offices along the Chao Phraya River, Khlong Bangkok Noi and Khlong Maha Sawat, have prepared and notified communities along the Chao Phraya River that may be affected by the rising water levels to move their belongings to higher ground, including preparing materials and equipment to help the affected people by having the district offices send sandbags to communities along gaps or points where there may be leaks, as well as build wooden bridges and distribute necessary general medicines. In addition, the public has been informed to follow the rise and fall of the water level from the Hydrographic Department, and if the district office n
eeds support materials and water pumps, they should notify the Flood Prevention System Control Center of the Drainage and Sewerage Office at 0 2248 5115. For people who encounter flooding problems, they can call the Flood Prevention Center at 0 2248 5115 or the Bangkok Flood Prevention Center at 1555, the 24-hour Bangkok hotline, or report the problem to Traffy Fondue.
