Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party announced its support for all candidates vying for the position of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, excluding those from the Pheu Thai Party. This decision comes ahead of the vote scheduled for August 7th, following the removal of Mr. Pichet Chuamuangphan by the Constitutional Court.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, an MP for Ubon Ratchathani and spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, stated that the party will not field its own candidate for the position but remains open to supporting other candidates, except for those from Pheu Thai. Ms. Nan emphasized that this stance is not a political strategy but rather a decision based on recent changes within the parliament.
Ms. Nan highlighted that the Deputy Speaker position has seen frequent changes, with the Second Deputy Speaker recently being chosen by the Pheu Thai Party. “Therefore, the First Deputy Speaker should be from the Third Party,” she explained.
In response to queries about potential collaboration with the Kla Tham Party, Ms. Nan mentioned that there had been no communication regarding vote requests as of yet, indicating that the situation remains fluid.
Addressing concerns about political gamesmanship, Ms. Nan reiterated that the party’s decision is not intended as a political maneuver. She stressed that their transparent approach to voting intentions demonstrates the sincerity of their actions.
