This (aid disbursement) is a direct order from the President (Joko Widodo) to help the people of Solo city and Sukoharjo district (in Central Java province) who have been affected by the flood.
Solo, W Java Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General Suharyanto on Saturday distributed logistical assistance to residents affected by the recent flood in Gandekan Village, Pasar Kliwon Sub-district, Solo City, Central Java Province.
He, along with the deputy for emergency mitigation at BNPB, Major General Fajar Setyawan, visited the refugee camp at the Gandekan Village Office to hand over the aid.
“This (aid disbursement) is a direct order from the President (Joko Widodo) to help the people of Solo City and Sukoharjo District (in Central Java Province) who have been affected by the flood,” Suharyanto said.
BNPB also held a coordination meeting with local governments to seek measures to keep the disaster from recurring.
After handing over logistical assistance in Solo city, the BNPB head left for Sukoharjo district to disburse aid to flood-affected residents there.
The floods in Solo city and Sukoharjo district were caused by incessant rainfall since Thursday (February 16, 2023) afternoon, which caused the Bengawan Solo River to overflow. In total, 16 villages in 4 sub-districts were affected by the disaster.
The Solo City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 4,440 residents had to take shelter at 12 locations in Joyoakan, Gendekan, Semanggi, Pucang Sawit, Kedunglumbu, Sudiro Prajan, and Pasar Kliwon areas.
There were still a number of refugees at the refugee camps on Saturday, although the floodwaters had receded in some areas, it said.
According to the Solo city BPBD, the BNPB has provided Rp500 million ready-to-use budget, 2,500 blankets, 2,500 mattresses, two thousand food packages, one thousand hygiene kits, one thousand cleaning tools, 200 family tents, five large tents, as well as two polyethylene boats in aid.
The medical team of Solo City Resort Police provided free health services at Joyotakan 59 Elementary School from Friday to Saturday (February 17–18) to help people affected by the flood.
