BNPB provides technical training on foot-and-mouth disease prevention

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) held a technical training workshop on the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Semarang city, Central Java province, from Sept 5 to 7, 2022.

The purpose of the activity is to increase the capacity of volunteers, farmers, animal traders, and relevant stakeholders in terms of FMD prevention. The technical training is also aimed at carrying out FMD surveillance through the mobilization and management of volunteers.

While opening the training, BNPB’s deputy for prevention, Prasinta Dewi, said that FMD had become a concern due to its economic impact on various sectors, according to a written statement on Wednesday.

Any potential economic loss would not only be experienced by farmers whose production will decline, but also nationally.

“The government is committed to FMD handling by making various efforts to prevent the spread of FMD. One of the efforts is the dissemination and education activity to the community by holding this technical training,” she remarked.

BNPB is utilizing its own application, InaRISK Personal, for digital-based monitoring and reporting, she said.

Through the application, the coverage of dissemination and education can be known, and the application can also detect FMD cases early.

Dewi said that the digital-based monitoring and reporting system integrated with the InaRISK Personal application has been developed to support facilitators in carrying out their duties.

The technical training is being attended by 100 representatives from the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Offices of 25 Central Java districts and cities, the Indonesian Military (TNI), volunteers, and farmer communities.

Besides Central Java, in the first phase, the activity will also be carried out in Aceh, Lampung, Yogyakarta, and Bali, followed by other regions.
