BPKP saves Rp6.4 trillion in state finances in 2021

The Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) said it saved Rp6.4 trillion in state finances through supervisory action on the spending of several agencies at the central and regional level in 2021.

According to BPKP Head Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, the control of agency expenditures at the central and regional levels was aimed at improving the efficiency and optimization of budget utilization.

“Throughout 2021, BPKP has managed to save state/regional finances amounting to Rp6.4 trillion, the efficiency of expenditures of Rp44.1 trillion, and revenues optimization of Rp3.8 trillion,” Ateh explained here on Wednesday.

In 2021, the total contribution of BPKP supervision on the central and regional budgets reached Rp54.3 trillion (US$1=Rp14,339), he added.

During the year, BPKP also scrutinized the spending of 84 ministries/institutions, 34 provincial governments, 514 district/city administrations, 237 state-owned enterprises (SOEs), 30,199 regional-owned or village-owned enterprises (BUMD/BUMDes), and 2,980 Public Service Agencies/Regional Public Service Agencies, he informed.

During the January–December period in 2021, BPKP completed 11,628 inspections that led to the issuance of 16,560 recommendations, Ateh said.

BPKP’s supervisory focus in 2021 included spending on national economic recovery programs, pandemic handling, and social assistance distribution, he added.

In the last two years, the funding for tackling COVID-19 has become effective and efficient, as evidenced by the reasonable price of PCR and antigen tests, Ateh highlighted.

He then thanked President Joko Widodo, all stakeholders, and the people for giving their trust to BPKP.

In 2022, BPKP has determined 29 areas of supervision under the National Supervisory Priority Agenda (APP), as well as eight fields and 68 regional APP topics, he informed.

“Let’s work together to monitor the accountability of budget and development for a strong, recovered, and thriving Indonesia,” Ateh affirmed.
