According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere before the game of the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2025 at Indoor Stadium Huamark was lively. In the third-place match, Brazil, ranked 2nd in the world, faced Japan, ranked 5th. The final match will feature Italy, ranked 1st, against Turkey, ranked 3rd. Despite the drizzle, a large number of volleyball fans attended the games, especially supporters of the Brazilian and Japanese national teams. Before entering the field, fans engaged in activities such as painting their faces with national flags and purchasing souvenirs to cheer for their favorite teams.
In the third-place match, Brazil, led by captain Gabi, triumphed over Japan, captained by Mayu Ishikawa and star outside hitter Yukiko Wada, with set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 19-25, 27-29, and 18-16. Gabi’s impressive 35-point contribution was pivotal in securing Brazil’s victory, earning them third place, while Japan finished fourth.
After the match, Gabi expressed his joy at the team’s achievement, praising Japan for their tenacity and strength. He thanked his teammates, coaches, and Thai volleyball fans for their support throughout the competition.
The final is scheduled for 7:30 PM, where Italy, the 2022 world champions, will compete against Turkey, marking their first finals appearance. Italy narrowly defeated Brazil in the semi-finals 3-2, with significant contributions from outside hitter Ekaterina Antropova and Mariam Fatime Silla, alongside star player Paula Iguanu. Turkey reached the finals by defeating Japan 3-1, led by outside hitters Melissa Vargas and Ibar Karakut.
In the last five meetings between Italy and Turkey, Italy has emerged victorious each time. Their most recent encounter was on July 13, 2025, in the Nations League, where Italy won 3-2. An intriguing aspect of the final is Italian coach Daniele Santarelli leading the Turkish national team against Italy, where his wife, Monica De Gennaro, plays as a Libero. Santarelli has yet to secure a victory against Italy in their past five matchups.
