BRIN intensifies low-carbon technology development

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) continues to step up the development of low-carbon technology to encourage a reduction in emissions from greenhouse gases, specifically carbon dioxide (CO2).

The effort is made by bolstering research and innovation in various fields through the development of low-carbon technology, BRIN’s Energy Conversion and Conservation Research Center Head Dr Cuk Supriyadi noted.

“There are seven scopes within the implementation of research and technology,” he stated during the Research and Innovation in Energy and Manufacture to Support the Nation’s Independence webinar on Thursday.

“The first scope concerns research in energy system planning, analysis, and optimization through energy modelling, starting from energy provision and utilization,” he noted.

The second involves research in the field of energy conversion system through application of thermodynamic technology, starting from thermal power plants, air conditioning systems, heat exchanger systems, and cooling systems.

The third comprises research in energy saving and low-emission technology for fossil energy conversion.

The fourth is research in the new and renewable energy utilization technology that comprises alternative energies, such as solar, hydro, geothermal, hydrogen, and biomass.

The fifth concerns research in drive system with fossil and alternative energy that is efficient, reliable, and low emission.

The sixth involves research in electricity technologies that support new and renewable energy, including smart network system and energy monitoring system.

The seventh relates to research in energy conservation technology that encompasses energy management, energy-saving technology, as well as energy audit in power plants, households, transportation, buildings, and industry.

“As an example, a research that had been conducted is that in the energy optimization system,” he stated.

“There are two subtopics, the first one being study on the potential of new and renewable energy, while the second is optimization of the national energy system,” he remarked.

Based on this energy optimization system research, the scenario involving energy transition, energy demand, and provision study, as well as techno-economy and energy technology-related environment study was created.

“The research result is expected to encourage the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to support the nation’s independence,” Supriyadi remarked.
