Hat yai: Two brothers involved in a shooting incident that resulted in an injury have surrendered to authorities. The brothers, Natthaphong, known as “Nat,” and Nitikorn, also known as “Korn,” tearfully confessed that they did not intend to cause harm.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place behind the Hat Yai District Office on the evening of August 10th. CCTV footage captured the events leading to the shooting. Nat, 21, and Korn, 30, rode their motorcycles to confront Mr. Wut and Ms. Nan about stolen phones that had been pawned. This confrontation escalated into an argument. As the brothers left the scene, 26-year-old Ekkarat, known as Bang Sem, was called to help monitor the situation.
Initially, Bang Sem was reluctant to get involved. However, upon witnessing Mr. Wut in a confrontation, he intervened by punching Mr. Wut. During the altercation, Nat and Korn drove by, and Nat fired two shots, aiming at Mr. Wut but accidentally injuring Bang Sem.
The brothers surrendered to the police at their residence in Kohong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District. They were then taken to the Songkhla Provincial Police Investigation Division for questioning.
The Songkhla Provincial Court has issued arrest warrants for Nat and Korn on several charges, including attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and discharging a firearm in public. The court has also seized a .380 caliber firearm, along with evidence from the scene, including a motorcycle used in the crime.
During the investigation, Nat claimed he did not intend to shoot anyone. He stated that the shots were meant to stop the fight between Bang Sem and Mr. Wut. Korn reportedly deflected the gun, causing an unintended shot to graze a motorcycle seat. Nat explained that his initial confrontation with Mr. Wut and Ms. Nan was over a pawned cell phone.
The brothers, upon surrendering, expressed remorse and insisted the shooting was accidental. The police have taken them into custody for prosecution.
Regarding Mr. Wut, the investigation revealed he was not involved in the theft of the cell phone. Ms. Nan had pawned the phone, and the altercation between Bang Sem and Mr. Wut was due to a prior conflict unrelated to the phone issue.
