BTS is relieved that Bangkok has agreed to pay the first 14 billion baht debt.

BTS is relieved that the BMA has agreed to pay the first 14 billion baht debt within the 180-day court deadline.

Mr. Surapong Laoha-Unya, Chief Executive Officer of Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited, revealed that last week he had spoken with Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, who was informed that regarding the repayment of the first debt, which the Supreme Administrative Court ruled to be repaid with interest totaling 1.4 million baht within 180 days, the BMA had submitted a request to the Bangkok Council to request approval to use the money to repay this debt. It is currently under consideration by the special committee, which the BMA governor stated should take less than 180 days.

The second debt is the part that is still being sued in the Administrative Court case in 2022 and from 2022 to the present, including interest of approximately 30 billion baht. It was reported that the BMA will set up a joint working group between the BMA and BTS to consider how to pay it off, as t
here are still pending cases in the Administrative Court that have not yet been decided. And the last part is the debt that will have to be paid after this.

‘The Bangkok governor said that the BMA’s money is not enough. As for the second debt, it may have to be paid in installments. As for the first debt, it must be paid all at once. After meeting and talking with the BMA governor, I feel relieved because at least he said he is willing to comply. This gives us confidence that all existing debts will be resolved, including in the future,’ said Mr. Surapong.
