Burma expands shelters in the North and Northeast to support flood victims


Warawut” reveals that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is expanding shelter centers in 16 northern and northeastern provinces to support flood victims.

Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), revealed that he had received a report from Mr. Anukul Peedkaew, Permanent Secretary of the MSDHS, on the progress of assistance to vulnerable groups during disasters, stating that the Center for Accelerated Public Welfare Management (CWMS) of the MSDHS reported assistance to vulnerable groups from agencies under the MSDHS during disasters. From August 15 to October 4, 2024, it was found that there were areas affected by the disaster situation in 38 provinces (Chiang Rai, Phitsanulok, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan, Tak, Prachin Buri, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan, Sukhothai, Phrae, Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Loei, Udon Thani, Lampang, Nong Bua Lamphu, Uttaradit, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Yala, Rayong, Phayao, P
hangnga, Trang, Satun, Chumphon, Lamphun, Pathum Thani, Surat Thani, Maha Sarakham, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, and Ubon Ratchathani) 102 districts, 421 sub-districts, 2,114 villages, and 55,622 households. There were 66,342 households or 79,604 vulnerable people affected by the disaster situation, divided into 9,107 children, 7,558 youths, and 12,076 people with disabilities. 39,627 elderly people and 11,236 low-income people

Mr. Varawut said that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has provided assistance to 13,157 vulnerable people, by providing financial assistance to 5,337 families, providing advice and recommendations on welfare rights to 6,632 people, repairing and improving their homes to 50 people, and orphaning 6 people. In addition, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s donation centers have provided essential consumer goods to disaster victims with cooperation from the private sector, such as diapers for the elderly, boxed meals, drinking water, medicine, p
rosthetics for the disabled, and consumer goods specifically for the target groups, such as canes, disposable diapers, mobile toilets, and setting up 21 kitchens in collaboration with the provinces of Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Sukhothai, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai.

Mr. Varawut said that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has now opened the area of ??the team unit.
