Cabinet Approves Sorapong Paitoonpong as Director-General of Department of Land Transport

Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved the appointment of Sorapong Paitoonpong as the new Director-General of the Department of Land Transport. Alongside this appointment, Piyapong Jiwattanakulpaisan has been named Director-General of the Department of Highways. These changes are part of a broader governmental effort to ensure a seamless transition of roles before the end of September.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the Cabinet’s approval following a recent meeting. The Ministry of Transport proposed several high-level administrative appointments, including Chakkri Bamrungwong as Deputy Permanent Secretary and Panya Chuphanich as Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport. These appointments are set to take effect from October 1, 2025.

The government spokesman also noted that during the Cabinet meeting, there was a discussion regarding the timely appointment and transfer of officials. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, acting as Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of completing these transitions by the end of September. This timeline is intended to allow outgoing officials to efficiently hand over responsibilities, ensuring continuity within the government’s executive branch.
