Bangkok: Cabinet approves assistance for sugarcane farmers to harvest fresh sugarcane worth 5 billion baht, opens registration via government app. Mr. Karom Polpornklang, deputy government spokesman, revealed that the cabinet has approved measures to help sugarcane farmers harvest good quality fresh sugarcane to reduce PM2.5 dust in the 2024/2025 production season, with a budget of 5,175 million baht, using funds from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) for the time being.
According to Thai News Agency, the cabinet has also assigned the Ministry of Industry to consider alternatives for paying farmers via government applications to support the government’s policy of facilitating people’s access to government services by compensating for financial costs at the BAAC’s financial cost rate. The cabinet has also assigned the Ministry of Industry and BAAC to update the details of information that government agencies must submit along with requesting approval from the cabinet in accordance with Sections 27 and 28 of the Fiscal Discipline Act for use in the cabinet’s consideration.
The cabinet has also tasked the Ministry of Industry to develop a plan to support sugarcane farmers in harvesting sugarcane without burning in a sustainable manner.
