Phnom penh: PTT gas stations in Cambodia have been rebranded, ignoring legal trade agreements. A source from PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) revealed that PTT Station owners in Cambodia joined forces to terminate their distributorship contracts with PTT (Cambodia) and discontinue the use of the PTT brand in favor of a Cambodian brand. This stems from the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The source stated that if a station owner in Cambodia wishes to terminate the contract, they must provide six months' notice in advance. Removing the PTT sign before the deadline would be considered a breach of the terms and conditions. OR will protect its rights under the contract. The clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border have minimal impact on OR's profitability, as the number of PTT stations in Cambodia is 186, compared to the approximately 2,300 PTT stations in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Cambodia's Kampuchea Thmey Daily newspaper reported on Facebook on Sunday (August 3) that most gas station owners who bought the rights to use the PTT (Cambodia) brand have decided to cancel their distributorship contracts and will switch to a new brand created by Cambodians. The newspaper quoted Tea Siem, a representative of PTT gas station operators in Cambodia, as saying, "PTT signs must be removed and there must be legal measures in this regard."
Mr. Tea Siem, the representative owner of PTT Station in Cambodia, has officially authorized the cancellation of the PTT Cambodia distributorship contract. The Facebook page shows a picture of the Peace Petroleum Cambodia gas station that will replace the PTT Station.
