Bangkok: Chadchart orders strict safety measures for Loy Krathong 2025, including inspections of piers and piers throughout the capital and expansion of low-pollution zones to address PM2.5 dust during the winter.
According to Thai News Agency, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has announced safety protocols for the upcoming Loy Krathong festival, with a focus on addressing PM2.5 dust issues during winter. Safety will be the main priority to ensure tourist confidence. All agencies must report their Loy Krathong event locations and consider potential hazards like floating lanterns, firecrackers, fireworks, and river boating. This year, boat rescue drills have been conducted more rigorously, especially after recent boat fires on the Chao Phraya River.
District offices and relevant agencies have been tasked with inspecting all pontoons and piers in the area. This includes installing guardrails, signs indicating weight capacities, and limiting the number of people allowed on each structure. Officials will be present at the krathong floating areas to maintain safety. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will particularly focus on safety measures at events under Rama VIII Bridge. The public is encouraged to participate in Loy Krathong 2025 by using krathongs made from natural materials and avoiding bread, fish food, or animal feed, as these can pollute enclosed ponds. Alternatively, participants can opt for online krathong floating to protect the environment.
