Although the Ping River level that overflowed into Chiang Mai city has begun to recede from its highest point of 5.30 meters, which is considered the highest level ever measured, causing Chiang Mai to face the worst flooding in its history, thousands of houses and commercial areas are still under water, with some areas still flooded more than 2 meters high. People still need to be evacuated from the flooded areas, with many people having to live in cars parked on bridges .
