Chiang rai: The Election Commission is gearing up for the upcoming Chiang Rai by-election scheduled for September 14th.
According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission (EC) chairman, Mr. Itthiphon Boonprakong, expressed confidence in the arrangements made for the by-election in Chiang Rai Constituency 7. He mentioned that registration for candidates was open from August 13 to August 17, during which one candidate registered. Preparations are progressing smoothly, with nearly all tasks completed, except for the establishment of a mobile unit that will be discussed in the upcoming Election Commission meeting. The ballot papers for the election are ready, and there are no disputes regarding them.
Chiang Rai Constituency 5 is set to have 285 polling stations with approximately 130,000 eligible voters. The election results are anticipated to be announced by 10:00 PM on the election day itself, as the constituency covers only five districts. Efforts are underway to implement a system that would enable real-time reporting of vote counts on the election night, ensuring that results are available immediately.
The situation regarding the Sisaket Constituency 5 by-election is also under close observation. The EC chairman stated that the Election Commission office and secretary-general received an update from the Sisaket Provincial Election Commission Director, indicating an improvement in the situation. Evacuees have returned to their homes in two districts, although the shelters have not been officially closed. The EC is collaborating with Sisaket provincial agencies to assess the situation daily. Once deemed safe, an election date will be announced promptly.
