Chinese National with Knife Disrupts Convenience Store, Injures Police Officers

Bangkok: A Chinese man wielding a knife caused a disturbance at a convenience store near the Sutthisan Police Station, injuring two police officers before being apprehended. The officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspect was taken into custody.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. when the man, identified as Mr. Yang Jinsim, entered the store holding a knife and his passport. Using a translation app, he communicated with a female clerk, claiming someone intended to kidnap him for ransom. Displaying signs of hallucination, he allowed only women to approach him and refused contact with men, prompting the clerk to alert authorities by calling 191.

Two officers from Sutthisan Police Station arrived on the scene approximately 15 minutes later. Despite being in uniform, they were unable to calm the man and were forced to intervene physically. In the ensuing struggle, one officer was injured in the mouth and another in the neck b
y the knife-wielding suspect. Bystanders assisted the officers in subduing the man without further violence.

Following the arrest, Mr. Yang was detained at the Sutthisan Police Station, facing charges of assaulting an officer on duty, obstructing an officer, and carrying a knife in public without permission. The injured officers received treatment for their wounds, which were reported as minor.
