Bangkok: “Chulaphan” reiterated that as far as he knew, the United States had no proposal to use the Tap Lamu naval base. He emphasized that the Thai team negotiating US tariffs must give importance to all sectors, especially the agricultural sector, and find the best solution.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Deputy Minister of Finance, revealed that this week’s cabinet meeting did not discuss Thailand’s additional proposal to the United States to reduce taxes, but last week, there was a discussion on this matter. From the progress report from the Minister of Finance, he described the various situations but emphasized that Thailand still has time, which will work hard to find a conclusion. At this moment, it is not easy and quite difficult because looking at the current situation, there is news all over the world that only two countries have an agreement with the United States, and the agreements that have come out are not very good. As for Thailand, as the government, can we leave the affected sectors or not? This is difficult because we have to give importance, especially to the agricultural sector. Therefore, we have to look carefully and find a way to negotiate to find the best conclusion for Thailand.
Mr. Chulaphan confirmed that there was no discussion about the US proposal to use the Tap Lamu naval base in Phang Nga Province, and he did not know whether there was any discussion on the day he flew to the US to talk because he was not part of the group. However, from what he heard, there were no issues of this nature.
In addition, Mr. Chulaphan also revealed that the Cabinet meeting did not consider appointing a new governor of the Bank of Thailand and was not related to the complaint letter.
